Precision and longevity in mind.

Quality that lasts.

With years of experience carrying out many rewires, we have a tried and tested systematic approach to rewiring homes. We begin with a thorough assessment of your current electrical system to identify any issues or areas that require attention. This would be in the form of an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report). Based on our assessment, we develop a customised rewiring plan tailored to you and your home’s specific needs.

During the rewiring process, we will ensure that disruption to your daily routine is kept to a minimum where possible. We will work efficiently and diligently to replace old wiring, install new fittings and outlets, and upgrade your fuseboard to meet current safety standards. Rewiring is inherently a dusty job, but at Master Spark, we use dust extraction machines in order to keep dust down as much as possible. Throughout the project, we’ll maintain open communication with you, keeping you informed of our progress and addressing any concerns or questions you may have. Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities, and we’ll go above and beyond to ensure a smooth and successful rewiring experience.

Signs that your home may require rewiring include frequently tripping circuits, an old-looking fuseboard, flickering lights, discoloured switches or sockets, insufficient number of sockets, and many more. If your electrical system is over 30 years old, it may also be time for an upgrade. We can carry out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) to confirm if one is needed. We can then provide a detailed assessment and recommend the necessary upgrades to ensure your home’s electrical system is safe and up to current standards.

The cost of rewiring a house varies based on the size of the property, the extent of the work required, such as the number of sockets and lights, and the level of specification. At Master Spark, we provide a free, detailed quotation based on a thorough assessment of your property. Most importantly, we engage in a discussion with you to understand your specific electrical needs, ensuring pricing transparency throughout the process.

The duration of a full house rewire varies depending on factors such as the size of the property, the complexity of the installation, and the extent of the upgrades required. Generally, a complete rewire can take anywhere from several days to a couple of weeks to complete.

At Master Spark, we prioritise quality and thoroughness in our work. We will assess your specific situation during the initial consultation and provide you with a realistic timeline based on your home’s needs. Throughout the process, we maintain open communication to keep you informed of our progress.

We encourage customers to move out during the rewire for health and safety reasons as well as comfort. This allows us to work more efficiently, enabling us to complete the installation as quickly as possible while minimizing disruption to your daily life. If the house is occupied during the rewire, it will naturally take longer to complete the work due to the complexity of working around the occupants’ daily activities, which may result in slightly higher installation costs. However, we understand that moving out isn’t always feasible. We can discuss your specific situation and make accommodations as needed to ensure the process is as smooth as possible.

A rewire is split into two phases: the first fix and the second fix.

  • First fix phase – this involves all the work needed to run and hide the new cabling. This includes stripping out all the old cables and running the new cables under floorboards, in ceiling voids, and inside walls. The work typically involves cutting chases and installing cabling into the walls, as well as fitting new back boxes for switches and sockets. Chases in the walls will then be filled in with cement to a near flush finish. The first fix usually accounts for around 70% of the work.
  • Second fix phase – this is carried out once all re-plastering is completed and the walls are made good. This stage includes wiring in the faceplates on switches and sockets, connecting light fittings, and linking items such as cookers, extractor fans, electric showers, and heating controls. Everything is then connected to the consumer unit and tested to ensure it is operating correctly. After this, an installation certificate can be issued, and a building regulations notification is made.

Rewiring is a dusty and messy job, but at Master Spark, we take several steps to minimise this. We use dust extraction machines to control and reduce airborne dust, ensuring a cleaner environment. Additionally, we take great care to protect your home by using dust sheets and protective coverings over furniture and flooring. We clean up after ourselves as we go along, and once the rewire is complete. We take pride in carrying out a very thorough final clean-up, and many customers compliment us on this.

Not necessarily. Unlike most electrical contractors, once we chase the cables into the walls, we won’t leave you with exposed cables and open chases. We fill all of the chases with cement to a near flush finish. This preparation allows either a decorator or yourself to apply a fine layer over the top to bring it back to a smooth finish ready for painting.

When preparing for a rewire, there are a few important steps to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible. Although we use dust extraction machines and protective dust sheets throughout the project, there will inevitably be some dust. We recommend that customers cover any nearby furniture or belongings with plastic sheets or old bed sheets for extra protection, especially in rooms close to where the work is being carried out. This extra step will help minimise dust settling on your possessions, making the clean-up process easier once the work is complete.

For safety and ease, we can help move heavy furniture, but we ask that you remove the majority of the contents to make them lighter and reduce the risk of damage to the floor or furniture. It’s also advisable to remove small loose items and store them in boxes or areas we won’t be working in. Ensure that any other items are moved at least 1 meter away from the walls to give us adequate space to work. Additionally, we need access to light fittings, so please make sure ladders can be positioned beneath them.

Consider the locations of your new socket outlets and any future requirements, keeping in mind the placement of furniture like beds, computers, and TVs, as well as external lighting needs. We can offer guidance on these decisions to help you plan effectively. A rewire can sometimes seem daunting, but with the right preparation and support, we can make it a smooth and manageable process.

Yes, all of our installations come with a standard 6-year NICEIC guarantee. We are fully certified and proud members of NICEIC, ensuring our electrical work is carried out to the highest standards. After the work is completed, you will receive an electrical installation certificate, which serves as an official document confirming that the electrical installation in your property complies with current safety standards and regulations.

Updated electrical wiring improves the value of your property, as functional modern wiring is essential for any new homeowner. By having your property properly rewired, you ensure compliance with current safety standards and enhance energy efficiency, which together can significantly increase your home’s market value.
